Every day offers the chance to experience more wonderful views and the fresh clean air of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Getting out into the unspoilt hills is easy, when you take to the saddle. Not only are we well served by bridle paths, but Pentre Riding Stables also has access to mile after mile of "open hill" where you will be guided across less obvious trails.

Day Rides

A Day-Ride consists of two 2-hour long treks, separated by a return to the stables for lunch. They are an ideal way to spend a day on horseback, covering the local mountain and bridlepaths. These are suitable for the less-experienced rider and can be booked for a minimum of one person.

Cost is £90 per person, not including lunch which may be brought with you, or purchased from nearby providers.

Pentre Riding Stables is British Horse Society approved also an approved Pony Club Centre. We are members of the Wales Trekking and Riding Association.

Our horses are all fit, well-mannered, surefooted and very capable of negotiating the steep, often rocky terrain, to high level areas from which the views are best. We can cater for all levels of rider, so trekking is an ideal and fun way for the whole family* to enjoy the outdoors.

Our Guides are all experienced trek leaders and will do their best to ensure that you enjoy your outing to the full. Rides are tailored to the riders' abilities and the maximum number of riders we can accommodate in our groups is 10.

Our Trekking Rides include assessment & instruction, and range from 1 hour, ideal for first timers, through to our Special Rides, which are full-day, long rides into the more remote and challenging parts of our area. For further details and prices, please see Prices & Ride Times.

Riding Lessons

1/2 hour Group Lesson
Price: £18.00 per person - up to 6 in a group

Private Lessons

1/2 hour one to one lesson
Price: £22.00 per person

45 minutes one to one lesson
Price: £30.00 per person

Own-a-pony-days encourage the children to behave safely around horses whilst learning all about stable life.
They cost £30 a day, booked in conjunction with a fortnightly confirmation.
Price: £60 if a one-off event.

Take care of a pony all day - from tacking them up, to brushing them down.
This includes a 30 minute lesson and a 60 minute trek.
Start at 11am, finish at 3pm.

*Subject to availability certain weather conditions can change structure to the layout of the day.

A suitable pony, allocated for the holiday period, based on an initial assessment of the child's experience and ability.

Children stay in supervised accommodation and maximum of 5 to a room.
They are allocated on a basis of boys together and girls together.
Accommodation is part of the family home and interactions are family orientated.

Mobile phones will have limited allowances during the day and handed back at tea time for health and safety purposes.

Parents are very welcome to visit Pentre before deciding to book. Parents will need to sign the Rider Registration Form, and the Health and Safety Agreement, giving permission for the activities, and that they will ensure that their child always wears a riding hat whilst on the stable yard, and only crosses the main road after asking specific permission.

Children Riding Holidays Prices
Holiday from Monday to Friday - Price: £350 per person - inclusive of all meals and riding (some pocket money is recommended).

This is £70 a day - this includes all meals, accommodation and horse riding.
Plus an option help muck out the yard

Please note that we are happy to be flexible with regard to the number of days, and can cater for stays of less or more, if necessary, on a pro rata basis of £70 per day.

Children's Riding Parties offer a unique and enjoyable way to experience horse riding. Each child gets the opportunity to ride a horse dressed as a Unicorn.
The riding experience takes place in our secure paddock area, and the party in the dining room, which is booked for your exclusive use.

Riding Parties are suitable for children aged 4+, as due to insurance reasons younger children may not ride the horses.
Prices: Riding Parties cost £25 per child
Minimum of 4 children, maximum of 10 plus £3.00 each for food.

Duration: The riding experience lasts an hour, with the tea party on top of that.

Booking: Please book well in advance, but with sufficient notice we should be able to accommodate any date.

For children travelling to us by train safe collection can be arranged from Neath Station.

Pentre has been a Riding Stables and Trekking Centre for many years. We also offer Bed and Breakfast accommodation adjoining Pentre Farmhouse. This is ideal for singles, couples and families wishing to combine a comfortable B&B or self catering break with horse-riding and lots of other outdoor activities.

Fabulous experience horse riding at Pentre. Family of 7 booking age range 5 to 45 with only 1 person having any experience. It was superb, beautiful scenery whilst riding. Great friendly reassuring staff who put the nervous riders at ease. Lovely tame gentle horses, perfect for 1st timers. Biggest surprise, the teenage boys absolutely loved it. Would def recommend if you holidaying in the area.
